Plainfield FrisbeeDog Competition - 6/1/97

Plf1 The rain held off on Sunday (6/1/97) after all the TV weatherpeople had predicted rain all weekend. In fact, in Plainfield, New Jersey the sun was out for the Alpo Frisbeedog contest.

There were two, one minute rounds.  Catches were scored based on distance of the throws:

10-20 yds. = 1 point
20-30 yds. = 3 points
over 30 yds. = 5 points

For each catch that all four of the dogs feet were off the ground he/she got another point.

On my first round I only caught 3 Frisbees out of five throws (missed the first and last).  Actually, on the misses, I'm only partially to blame.  The throws were too low and long. (Although I guess I wasn't running as hard as I should have.)

A happy Rudy
On the second round I (we) did much better .... 6 for 6.  I was surprised that I did well enough to win the third place ribbon, an official ALPO Frisbee and an ALPO Frisbeedog T-shirt.

Plf2The winner, Smokin, a Golden Retriever got over sixty points.  There were about twelve dogs in all.  All kinds!  A Golden, 2 Pit Bulls, a (big!) German Shepard, 2 Australian Cattle Dogs (at least that's what I think they were), a Border Collie (or two) and a bunch of other neat Frisbee Dogs.  About 11 or 12 dogs in all.
